The year-end television lineup delivered a genuine shocker this year during TV Asahi's massive broadcast of the "Ame Talk! Year-End 6-Hour Special" on the 30th. Kuriya, the 36-year-old half of the comedy duo Carcaroni, seized the spotlight not just for laughs, but to announce that he has officially tied the knot.
A Star-Studded Segment Turns Emotional
This year marked the seventh installment of the popular segment "Sanma vs. Best-Selling Young Comedians." The stage was set with industry titan Akashiya Sanma engaging in explosive banter with a roster of rising stars, including Kusanagi from Miyashita Kusanagi, the duo EXIT, Niiyama from Sayaka, and Anri from Borujuku. The segment also featured Inada Miki from Beni Shoga making her first appearance, alongside Kuriya.
The Unexpected "Report"
Amidst the comedic back-and-forth, Kuriya suddenly changed the atmosphere, cutting in with a serious tone: "I have something I would like to report." As the studio fell silent, anticipating a punchline, he revealed, "I have decided to get married." The announcement sent shockwaves through the studio, leaving the other guests in disbelief. Even the veteran host Sanma was visibly taken aback, exclaiming, "What kind of hidden secret weapon did you bring out?!"
Sanma Signs the Papers
The surprise didn't end with the verbal announcement. Kuriya produced an actual marriage registration form right there in the studio. He boldly asked the legendary Sanma to serve as his witness. Although Sanma grumbled in his signature style, saying, "You're handing this to me personally like this?" he graciously signed the document. It was later revealed that Kuriya submitted the wedding papers just two days after the recording, on November 22nd, known in Japan as "Good Couple Day."
