The cross-Taiwan-Korea collaborative reality cooking program *Chef's Emergency Landing: Hakka Kitchen 2* is currently enjoying a soaring viewership on CTV General Channel, with its popularity continuing to climb since its premiere. Girls' Generation member HyoYeon, making her debut on the show this season, revealed that she was immediately drawn to the series after watching the first installment. Being able to participate in the second season's filming filled her with a mix of excitement and eager anticipation. The most daunting challenge she faced, however, was figuring out how to utilize traditional Hakka ingredients to craft dishes that would appeal to both Taiwanese and Korean audiences alike. To overcome this, the entire cast spent countless hours before filming brainstorming recipe combinations, testing them repeatedly, and adjusting flavors until they got it right. “The process of fully devoting ourselves to perfecting these dishes is still something that stands out vividly in my memory,” HyoYeon shared.
As a sous chef paired with Wen Sheng-hao, HyoYeon noted that despite their different nationalities, they clicked almost instantly. She said, “Sheng-hao哥 was part of the first season, so he has a wealth of experience. He shared all his tips and tricks without holding back, and we barely felt any language barrier between us at all.” She also added that even though Chiang Hung-chieh is on a competing team as another sous chef, their similar ages have led to a natural camaraderie. They often help each other out when needed, and this friendly interaction has turned them into close friends with great chemistry—one of the most cherished memories she took away from the filming experience.

HyoYeon also couldn't stop raving about one particular dish from the show: “Pickled Vegetable Stewed Pork Ribs,” which uses unique Hakka ingredients like pickled vegetables, tangyuan, and rice cakes. She says she's still craving its flavor even after filming wrapped up. Laughingly, she explained, “In Korea, we have a term called '밥도둑' (rice thief) for dishes that are so delicious they make you eat more rice than usual. This dish is exactly that—it has such rich, layered flavors that you can't help but keep pairing it with bite after bite of rice.”
For HyoYeon, the show's biggest highlights are the thrilling sense of urgency that comes with creating delicious dishes under tight time constraints, and the sight of all cast members giving their all in team competitions to win over more customers. “The way everyone throws themselves into the competition with such passion and determination is truly one of the most exciting parts to watch,” she emphasized. *Chef's Emergency Landing: Hakka Kitchen 2* airs every Sunday at 10 PM on CTV General Channel, and every Sunday at 8 PM on Hakka TV.
